How to See Who Shared or Reposted Your Instagram Post
You can see who reposted your Instagram post with the Repost button, because Instagram notifies you and the post appears in their Reposts tab; you can also see public story shares through the View story reshares option on your post, where your app offers it.

You can see who reposted your Instagram post with the Repost button, because Instagram notifies you and the post appears in their Reposts tab; you can also see public story shares through the View story reshares option on your post, where your app offers it. People who send your post by direct message, or share it to a private or close-friends story, stay anonymous; you only see them in your share count.
What you can see depends on how someone shared, so this guide breaks it down by method. Your share totals live in Insights, covered in how to see Instagram Insights. The same post can be judged by your Instagram engagement rate, and the best time to post on Instagram is the other lever on reach.
What Can You See for Each Way of Sharing?
Instagram shows names for public, deliberate shares and only counts for private ones. The table sums it up.
| How they shared | Can you see who? | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Repost button (two arrows) | Yes | Your notifications, and their Reposts tab |
| Story share that tags or mentions you | Yes | Your notifications and messages |
| Story share without a tag, public account | Sometimes, while the story is live | View story reshares on your post, where available |
| Story share, private account or close friends | No | Counted in shares only |
| Sent by direct message | No | Counted in shares only |
How Do You See Who Reposted Your Post?
When someone uses the Repost button on your post or reel, Instagram sends you a notification that they reposted it. Open your notifications and look for the repost alerts. Each repost also appears in the Reposts tab on that person’s profile, unless their account is private and you don’t follow them.
How Do You See Who Shared Your Post to Their Story?
Open your post, tap the three dots, and look for View story reshares; it lists public stories that are currently sharing your post. If the option isn’t there, no public account is sharing it right now, or the feature isn’t available on your account. Story shares that tag you also arrive as notifications or messages, so you can open them directly.
How Do You See How Many Times Your Post Was Shared?
On a professional account, open the post and tap View insights to see its share count. Shares include direct messages and story shares, but Insights never names who shared. Switching to a professional account is covered in how to see Instagram Insights.
Why Can’t You See Who Shared Your Post?
Most shares are private by design: direct messages and private stories aren’t attributed to anyone. Apps that promise a full list of everyone who shared your post can’t access that information. The useful signal is the share count, which shows how far a post travelled.
How Do You Find Public Posts That Tag Your Account?
Posts that tag your account are collected on your tagged-posts page, https://www.instagram.com/yourusername/tagged/. To track them over time, apidojo’s Instagram Scraper on Apify accepts tagged-posts URLs and returns each post with its author, caption, likes and date, at $0.50 per 1,000 posts (Apify). Monitoring tags and hashtags on a schedule is covered in how to monitor Instagram hashtags and brand mentions.
