The complaint and question searches pair well with the filters in how to exclude words from Twitter search.
How Do You Find Mentions Without the @ Sign?
Many people write a brand or person’s name without tagging the account, so add the name in quotes with OR: (@brand OR "brand name"). Quotes keep multi-word names together. Add common misspellings with OR to catch the rest, as shown in how to search multiple keywords on X with OR.
How Is a Mention Different From a Reply?
A mention is any post that contains @username; a reply is a post written in answer to one of that account’s posts. to:username returns only replies addressed to the account, while @username returns both replies and standalone mentions (twitter-advanced-search reference). Replies are covered in how to find replies sent to a user on X.
Why Are Some Mentions Missing?
Mentions are missing from search when they come from protected or suspended accounts, which X does not index, or when the post names the account without tagging it. Search the plain name with OR as shown above, and switch between the Top and Latest tabs.
