How to Sort Tweet Replies by Time
To sort a tweet's replies by time on X, open the post and change the reply sort option above the replies from Most relevant to Most recent.

To sort a tweet’s replies by time on X, open the post and change the reply sort option above the replies from Most relevant to Most recent. X added reply sorting in August 2024 with 3 options: Most relevant, Most recent and Most liked. For oldest-first order, search the thread’s conversation_id: and read the Latest tab from the bottom up.
X shows replies in its own relevance order by default, which hides newer replies on busy posts. This guide covers the in-app sort, the search method and a full export for exact ordering. It’s part of how to search Twitter replies. Every operator this guide uses is listed in the Twitter advanced search operators reference.
What Are X’s Reply Sort Options?
X’s 3 reply sort options are Most relevant, Most recent and Most liked; X announced them on 9 August 2024 for replies on any post. Listed below is what each one shows.
| Option | Shows replies |
|---|---|
| Most relevant | In X’s own ranking; this is the default |
| Most recent | Newest first |
| Most liked | By number of likes, highest first |
X hasn’t published how Most relevant is ranked.
How Do You Sort Replies by Most Recent?
You sort replies by most recent by opening the post and choosing Most recent from the reply sort control above the replies. Listed below are the 3 steps on the web and in the app.
- Open the post so its replies show below it.
- Tap the reply sort control at the top of the replies; it reads Most relevant by default.
- Choose Most recent.
The sort can return to Most relevant the next time you open a post, so check it each time.
How Do You See the Oldest Replies First?
X has no oldest-first sort, so search the thread instead: conversation_id: plus the post ID, in the Latest tab, lists every reply newest first, and the bottom of the list is the oldest. Copy the post ID from the number after /status/ in its URL (twitter-advanced-search reference).
conversation_id:1728108619189874825
Add since: and until: to jump straight to the first hours of a thread: conversation_id:1728108619189874825 until:2023-11-25. Date windows are explained in how to search tweets by date.
How Do You Sort Replies by Likes?
Choose Most liked in the reply sort control, or search conversation_id:ID min_faves:50 to keep only replies above a like threshold. The threshold method also works on very long threads where scrolling stops. Thresholds are covered in how to search tweets by likes, reposts and replies.
