TikTok Display API and Login Kit: What Data You Can Get
The TikTok Display API lets an app show a TikTok user's own profile and public videos, but only after that user logs in with TikTok through Login Kit and grants permission.

The TikTok Display API lets an app show a TikTok user’s own profile and public videos, but only after that user logs in with TikTok through Login Kit and grants permission. It has 3 endpoints: /v2/user/info/ for profile details, /v2/video/list/ for recent videos and /v2/video/query/ for specific videos by ID. It can’t read other people’s accounts.
The Display API is built for apps that feature their users’ TikTok content, such as creator portfolios or link-in-bio pages. This guide covers what it returns, the scopes it needs, and what it can’t do. Every official TikTok API is mapped in TikTok API in 2026. For ads rather than creator content, see the TikTok Commercial Content API.
What Does the TikTok Display API Do?
The Display API returns the profile and video metadata of a TikTok user who has authorised your app, so you can display their TikTok identity and videos on your platform. TikTok describes its purpose as letting your platform’s creators show their TikTok profile and videos without their followers leaving your platform (TikTok for Developers).
| Endpoint | Returns |
|---|---|
GET /v2/user/info/ |
The user’s basic profile, such as open ID, avatar, display name, profile deep link and bio |
POST /v2/video/list/ |
Metadata for the user’s recently uploaded public videos |
POST /v2/video/query/ |
Metadata for specific videos of the user, by video ID |
Endpoints and fields are from TikTok’s Display API overview (TikTok for Developers).
What Do You Need to Use the Display API?
You need a TikTok developer account, approval for Login Kit and the Display API, and the user.info.basic and video.list scopes. TikTok’s getting-started guide lists those requirements, and each user must also authorise your app before you can read their data (TikTok for Developers). Listed below are the 4 steps.
- Register an app on TikTok for Developers.
- Apply for Login Kit and the Display API, and request the scopes.
- Send users through Login Kit with
scope=user.info.basic,video.list. - Exchange the authorisation code for an access token and call the endpoints.
Which Scopes Does the Display API Use?
The Display API’s core scopes are user.info.basic for profile info and video.list for public videos; extra scopes unlock more profile fields and stats. The table lists the user and video scopes from TikTok’s scopes reference (TikTok for Developers).
| Scope | Grants read access to |
|---|---|
user.info.basic |
Profile info such as open ID, avatar and display name |
user.info.stats |
Likes count, follower count, following count and video count |
video.list |
The user’s public videos |
TikTok notes that approval for a scope doesn’t by itself give access to anyone’s data: each user must authorise your app for those scopes (TikTok for Developers).
What Video Data Does the Display API Return?
Video endpoints return the fields you request, such as id, title, video_description, duration, cover_image_url, share_url and embed_link. TikTok’s examples request these through the fields parameter, and the embed_link lets you play the video inside your product (TikTok for Developers).
What Can’t the Display API Do?
The Display API can’t search TikTok, read accounts that haven’t authorised your app, or collect comments, follower lists or other creators’ videos. Those jobs need either TikTok’s Research API, if you’re an eligible academic researcher, or a scraper that reads public pages. The options are compared in TikTok API vs TikTok scraper.
| Job | Display API | Alternative |
|---|---|---|
| Show a logged-in user’s videos in your app | Yes | Not needed |
| Read a competitor’s public videos | No | TikTok Profile Scraper, $0.30 per 1,000 posts |
| Search TikTok by keyword or hashtag | No | TikTok Scraper, $0.30 per 1,000 posts |
| Collect comments | No | TikTok Comments Scraper, $0.30 per 1,000 comments |
Prices are from each actor’s Apify listing.
What Can Users Control?
Users choose whether to authorise your app and which scopes to grant, and nothing is shared until they do. This consent model is why the Display API only ever touches the data of people who’ve signed in (TikTok for Developers). What TikTok collects from users in general is covered in what data does TikTok collect about you.
