**To search tweets by hashtag on X, type the hashtag with its # sign into the search bar, for example `#WorldCup`, and open the Latest tab for every post that uses it.** Add `since:` and `until:` to see a hashtag during an event, or `from:username` to see one account’s posts with it.

Hashtags are one of the word operators in the [Twitter advanced search operators](/blog/twitter-search/advanced-search-operators/) reference. The general keyword method is in [how to search tweets by keyword](/blog/twitter-search/search-tweets-by-keyword/).

## How Do You Search a Hashtag on X?

**You search a hashtag by typing it with the # sign in the search bar, or by entering it in the These hashtags field of the Advanced search form.** X’s advanced search supports posts with a specific hashtag ([X Help Center](https://help.x.com/en/using-x/x-advanced-search)). Listed below are the 3 steps.

1.  **Type** the hashtag: `#buildinpublic`.
2.  **Press** Enter.
3. **Choose** **Top** for the most engaged posts or **Latest** for every post in time order.

## Hashtag Search Examples

**These hashtag searches combine a hashtag with the filters people use most.** Replace the hashtag, handle and dates.

| Goal | Query |
| --- | --- |
| One hashtag | #buildinpublic |
| A hashtag during an event | #WorldCup since:2022-11-20 until:2022-12-19 |
| A hashtag from one account | from:username #buildinpublic |
| Two hashtags together | #AI #MachineLearning |
| Either of two hashtags | #AI OR #MachineLearning |
| A hashtag in one language | #AI lang:en |
| A hashtag with images | #sunset filter:images |
| Popular posts with a hashtag | #buildinpublic min_faves:100 |
| A hashtag, no reposts | #buildinpublic -filter:retweets |

The OR form is covered in [how to search multiple keywords on X with OR](/blog/twitter-search/search-multiple-keywords-or/), and date windows in [how to search tweets by date](/blog/twitter-search/search-tweets-by-date/).

## How Do You Find Every Hashtag an Account Uses?

**To find an account’s posts that use any hashtag, search `from:username filter:hashtags`.** The `filter:hashtags` operator keeps only posts containing at least one hashtag ([twitter-advanced-search reference](https://github.com/igorbrigadir/twitter-advanced-search)).

## How Do You Exclude a Hashtag?

**To exclude a hashtag, put a minus sign before it: `giveaway -#ad`.** This removes posts that carry the hashtag. More exclusions are in [how to exclude words from Twitter search](/blog/twitter-search/exclude-words/).

## How Do You Find Posts That Are Only Hashtags?

**The special language code `lang:qht` returns posts that contain only hashtags and no other text, for posts since June 2022.** Pair it with a hashtag to find bare hashtag posts: `#giveaway lang:qht` (twitter-advanced-search reference).

## Why Does a Hashtag Search Show Few Posts?

**A hashtag search shows few posts in the Top tab by default, because Top favours posts with engagement; switch to Latest to see every post.** Also check the spelling: a hashtag matches as one token, so `#WorldCup` and `#WorldCup2022` are different hashtags. Search both with OR.

## How to Collect Hashtag Posts With apidojo

**apidojo’s [Tweet Scraper V2](https://apify.com/apidojo/tweet-scraper) on Apify collects every post with a hashtag, with text, author, date and engagement, for analysis in a spreadsheet.** The actor documents a hashtag query with a language filter as one of its examples (Apify).

```
{
  "searchTerms": ["#AI lang:en"],
  "sort": "Latest"
}
```

It costs $0.40 per 1,000 tweets. Add `since:` and `until:` to collect one event, as shown in [how to scrape tweets by date range](/blog/twitter-scraping/scrape-tweets-by-date/), and see the [apidojo Twitter Scraper](/scrapers/twitter-scraper/).
