**To watch TikTok without the app, open tiktok.com in any browser and close the prompt to open the app; you can watch public videos, open profiles at tiktok.com/@username and search, all without an account.** What you can’t do logged out is like, comment, follow or post, and TikTok asks you to sign in after a while of scrolling.

The browser is the official way to use TikTok without installing anything. This guide covers what works logged out, what doesn’t, how to open a specific video or profile, and what to know about third-party viewer sites. Searching itself is covered in [how to search on TikTok](/blog/tiktok-search/how-to-search-on-tiktok/). Back in the app, two follow-up questions come up often: [how to clear your TikTok search history](/blog/tiktok-search/clear-search-history/) and [why you can’t search on TikTok](/blog/tiktok-search/search-not-working/).

## How Do You Watch TikTok in a Browser?

**You watch TikTok in a browser by going to tiktok.com on a phone or computer and scrolling the feed, or by opening any TikTok link someone sends you.** Listed below are the 4 steps.

1. **Open** Chrome, Safari, Firefox or any browser.
2. **Go** to `tiktok.com`.
3. **Close** the banner asking you to open the app, or tap the option to stay in the browser.
4. **Scroll** the feed, or use the search bar at the top.

On a computer, the desktop site shows a full feed with search on the left. On a phone, the mobile site works the same way, with more prompts to install the app.

## What Can You Do on TikTok Without an Account?

**Without an account you can watch, search and browse public content, but not interact with it.** The table sums it up.

| Action | Without an account |
| --- | --- |
| Watch public videos | Yes |
| Open a profile by URL | Yes, at tiktok.com/@username |
| Search for videos, users and hashtags | Yes, until TikTok asks you to sign in |
| Watch public LIVE streams | Yes, at tiktok.com/live |
| Read comments | Often limited or hidden |
| Like, comment, follow, share to friends | No |
| See private accounts’ videos | No |
| Post videos | No |

After a stretch of scrolling or a few searches, TikTok shows a login wall. Opening a direct video or profile link usually still works.

## How Do You Open a Specific TikTok Video or Profile Without the App?

**Paste the link into your browser: a profile is `tiktok.com/@username`, and a video is `tiktok.com/@username/video/` followed by its number.** Shared links that start with `vm.tiktok.com` redirect to the same pages. If you only know the person, not the link, see [how to find someone on TikTok](/blog/tiktok-search/find-someone-on-tiktok/).

## Is Watching TikTok Logged Out Anonymous?

**Watching logged out keeps the views off any TikTok profile, so they don’t appear in anyone’s viewer lists, but TikTok can still see the visit at a technical level.** If you’re logged in and want to browse profiles quietly, turn off profile view history first; see [TikTok profile views](/blog/tiktok-profiles/profile-views/). A private browser window adds a layer by not keeping cookies afterwards.

## Are Third-Party TikTok Viewer Sites Safe?

**Some third-party viewer sites show public TikTok videos without login walls, but they’re unofficial, often full of ads, and never need your TikTok password.** Leave any viewer that asks for your login, payment details, an extension or an app download. TikTok’s own website does everything most people need without that risk.

## Can You Download TikTok Videos Without the App?

**You can save a public video from the browser where the creator allows downloads, but the methods and rules differ from the app.** All the options, with and without the watermark, are in [how to download TikTok videos](/blog/tiktok-videos/download-tiktok-videos/).

## Why Does TikTok Keep Asking You to Log In?

**TikTok shows login prompts to logged-out visitors to encourage sign-ups and to limit how much one visitor can browse.** If the wall blocks you, open a direct video or profile link, or start a fresh private window. Signing in is the only way to remove the prompts entirely.

## How Tools Read Public TikTok Pages

**Everything a logged-out browser can see is public TikTok data, and that’s what scraping tools read too: public videos, profiles, hashtags, sounds and their numbers.** apidojo’s [TikTok Scraper](https://apify.com/apidojo/tiktok-scraper) on Apify collects that public data without any TikTok login and returns it as a spreadsheet or JSON, at $0.30 per 1,000 posts (Apify). How it works, and what it can’t see, is covered in [how to scrape TikTok data in 2026](/blog/tiktok-scraping/how-to-scrape-tiktok/).
