# How to Clear Instagram Search History and Reset Suggestions

To clear your Instagram search history, tap the search bar, tap See all next to Recent, then Clear all; or go to Your activity, then Recent searches, and tap Clear all.

**To clear your Instagram search history, tap the search bar, tap See all next to Recent, then Clear all; or go to Your activity, then Recent searches, and tap Clear all.** To remove one entry, tap the X next to it. To reset the wider recommendations that shape suggestions, use Reset suggested content in your settings.

Search history and search suggestions aren’t the same thing: history is what you typed, and suggestions also draw on your activity and connections. ## How Do You Clear Your Instagram Search History?

**You clear your history from the search screen or from Your activity.** Listed below are the 2 routes.

## How Do You Remove One Search?

**Tap the X next to a single account, hashtag or place in your recent searches.** It’s removed straight away; the rest of your history stays.

## Can You Auto-Clear Instagram Search History?

**Yes, Accounts Center has a search history setting where you can choose to clear searches automatically after a set period.** Open Settings, then Accounts Center, then **Your information and permissions**, then **Search history**, and choose your account and timeframe. Managing it there also covers searches from linked Meta accounts.

## Why Do Searches Still Appear After Clearing?

**What appears after clearing isn’t your history; it’s suggestions based on your activity, mutual connections, and synced contacts.** Meta’s documentation for Instagram’s Suggested Accounts lists signals such as mutual friends and whether an account follows you, plus synced contacts and a linked Facebook account if you’ve allowed them ([Meta Transparency Center](https://transparency.meta.com/features/explaining-ranking/ig-suggested-accounts/)). Clearing history doesn’t remove those connections.

## How Do You Reset Instagram Suggestions?

**To reset recommendations across Explore, Reels and Feed, go to Settings, then Content preferences, then Reset suggested content, and confirm.** Instagram describes this as a way to start fresh, after which recommendations personalise again from what you interact with ([TechCrunch](https://techcrunch.com/2024/11/19/instagram-will-soon-let-you-reset-your-recommendation-algorithm)).
