# How to Know If Someone Blocked You on Instagram

Instagram doesn't tell you when someone blocks you, so the reliable test is a comparison: if their profile won't open for you but opens in a logged-out browser at instagram.com/username, or for a friend, they've blocked you.

**Instagram doesn’t tell you when someone blocks you, so the reliable test is a comparison: if their profile won’t open for you but opens in a logged-out browser at instagram.com/username, or for a friend, they’ve blocked you.** If it doesn’t open for anyone, the account was deactivated, deleted, banned, or renamed instead. The other follower checks start from [how to see who unfollowed you on Instagram](/blog/instagram-followers/who-unfollowed-you/).

There’s no list of people who blocked you, in the app or anywhere else. This guide covers the signs, the check that confirms a block, and how to rule out the look-alikes. The same question for other networks is answered in [how to know if someone blocked you on TikTok](/blog/tiktok-profiles/who-blocked-me/) and [who blocked me on Twitter](/blog/x-guides/who-blocked-me-on-twitter/). If they simply stopped following you, [find who doesn’t follow you back on Instagram](/blog/instagram-followers/not-following-back/) is the check to run.

## What Are the Signs Someone Blocked You on Instagram?

**A block shows up as several things failing at once for one account.** Listed below are the 5 signs, strongest first.

1. **Their profile won’t load for you**, or shows no posts and a user-not-found message, while friends can see it.
2. **They don’t appear in search** when you type their exact username.
3. **They’ve vanished from your Following list** without you unfollowing.
4. **You can’t follow them**: the follow button doesn’t work or reverts.
5. **Your old chat shows no profile details**, and new messages don’t seem to reach them.

One sign alone can have another cause; several together, for one account, point to a block.

## How Do You Confirm That Someone Blocked You?

**Check the same profile from somewhere they haven’t blocked.** Listed below are the 3 steps.

1. **Open** a private browser window, not logged in, and go to `https://www.instagram.com/username/`.
2. **Compare**: if the profile loads there but not in your app, you’re blocked.
3. **Ask** a friend to check if the logged-out page asks you to sign in.

## Blocked, Deactivated, Deleted or Renamed?

**The account looks gone in every case, but only a block is invisible to you alone.** The table shows how to tell them apart.

| What happened | What you see | What a friend or logged-out browser sees |
| --- | --- | --- |
| They blocked you | Profile missing or empty | The normal profile |
| Deactivated or deleted | Profile missing | Profile missing |
| Banned by Instagram | Profile missing | Profile missing |
| Username changed | Old username missing | Old username missing; the person exists under a new one |
| Restricted you | Everything looks normal | Normal |

A renamed account is the most common false alarm: search their display name before assuming anything. Restrict is a quieter tool that hides your comments from others without a block, so it can’t be detected the same way. Finding people again is covered in [how to find someone on Instagram](/blog/instagram-search/find-someone-on-instagram/).

## Can You See a List of Who Blocked You?

**No, Instagram keeps no list of who blocked you, and apps claiming to show one can’t access that information.** Your own Blocked list, under Settings, then Blocked, shows only accounts you blocked.

## What Should You Do If Someone Blocked You?

**Respect it: only they can unblock you.** Making another account to get around a block can break Instagram’s rules, and Instagram lets people extend a block to new accounts the blocked person may create.

## How to Check Whether a Profile Exists Publicly With apidojo

**apidojo’s [Instagram User Scraper](https://apify.com/apidojo/instagram-user-scraper) on Apify reads public profiles without logging in, the same view as a logged-out browser, and its output includes an `isAvailable` field for each profile.** If the profile comes back available while it won’t open in your app, that points to a block (Apify).

```
{
  "handles": ["username"],
  "getFollowers": false,
  "getFollowings": false
}
```

It costs $0.01 per profile plus $0.0005 for the profile returned. Follower-related checks are covered in [how to see who unfollowed you on Instagram](/blog/instagram-followers/who-unfollowed-you/).
