# How to Find Deleted Messages on Instagram

Instagram has no way to restore a deleted message in the app, and messages someone unsent are gone for both of you.

**Instagram has no way to restore a deleted message in the app, and messages someone unsent are gone for both of you.** What you can do is check whether the chat is just hidden in Requests or Hidden Requests, look for a copy in a data export you made earlier, or ask the other person, who may still have the chat if only you deleted it. Many guides promise recovery apps that read deleted Instagram messages. ## Is the Message Really Deleted?

**Check first whether the message is only hidden, because filtered chats look like missing ones.** Listed below are the 3 places to check.

1.  **Requests**, at the top of your inbox, for messages from accounts you don’t follow.
2.  **Hidden Requests**, inside Requests, for messages filtered as possible spam.
3.  **Search** at the top of the inbox, typing the person’s name.

## What’s the Difference Between Deleting and Unsending?

**Deleting a chat removes it from your inbox only, while unsending a message removes it from the conversation for both people.** The table shows what each leaves behind.
